Lars Petter Sodergren married Hedvig Sofia Nilsdotter and on April 12, 1861 they had a son, Johan Viktor Sodergren. They lived in Tryserum, Kalmar, Sweden.

This may or may not be the correct Johann?!?

John Groote, born 1842 in Sweeden, married Christina ?, born 1848 in Sweden. They had at least 5 children. Alfred, Alma, Amanda, Lucy M, born July 1871, and John. All of the children were born in Sweden. They lived in Baltimore Maryland, 5th Ward, Precinct 5, in 1880. Mary A Darlin of Pennsylvania was a widow living in the house, working as a house keeper. Both of her parents were from Pennsylvania. John was a shoemaker. In 1900 they lived in election district 3, east part, precinct 1, Anne Arundel, Maryland.

In 1895 Lucy M Groote married Johann Viktor Sodergren, born Jan 1869 in Sweden. Both of his parents were from Sweeden. He immigrated to the US in 1883. They had at least 7 children. Ralph Victor, born Feb 26 1896, Ruth Victoria, born May 25 1897, John T, born Oct 3 1900, William Ragan, born Aug 6 1901, Florence Rosella, born Dec 21 1903, Charles William and Gladys Geneva. In 1931 they lived at 14 East Antietam Street. Johann died April 8, 1934 or complications and is buried at Rose Hill Cemetary on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown, Maryland. Johann had been a taylor.

The oldest, Ralph Victor, married Ruth B Rhodes and had 4 children Ralph Kenneth, Eugene 1921-1959, Nevin and Charles (William) Wilham 1908-1959. Ralph Victor died Oct 14, 1969 at Garlock Convalescent Home. He is burried at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Ruth Victoria died in 1968 and is burried in Rose Hill Cemetery.

John T died at two months old.

William Ragan was baptized on Aug 11 1901 at Saint Pauls Methodist Episcopal Church. He died Oct 17 1904.

Florence Rosella was baptized Dec 26 1903 at Saint Pauls, she died young.

Gladys Geneva married C Richard Thomas.

Looking for the Rhodes family.

I have found a family in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Charles E 1854-1926, Lucretia A died Oct 20 1905, and their children Amanda, Alice and CWR. Children's graves were found at the foot of Charles grave.

There are also Rhodes in the Bakersville Cemetery, the same cemetery that the Hemphills are burried in.

In the 1830 Washington County census there were three Rhodes found

In 1900 Clinton D, born Dec 1869, and his wife Florence V, born Jan 1896 in Maryland, lived with their two children, Porter R, born April 1894, and Gerald B, born April 1898 in Tilghmanton, election district 12, Washington County, Maryland.

In 1880 Elizabeth Hemphill, born Oct 1838 in Maryland, lived with her children Clara L, born 1869, John W, born 1860 and William Glass Jr. in Sharpsburg, Maryland. She was still in that area in 1900.

Gettia Hemphill, born Jan 1895 in Maryland, lived in Sharpsburg, Maryland, election district 1, in 1900.

Maud Z Hemphill, born Jan 1891 in Maryland, lived in Sharpsburg, Maryland, election district 1, in 1900.

Madge D Hemphill, born May 1889, in Maryland, lived in Sharpsburg, Maryland, election district 1, in 1900.

Lula T Hemphill, born Jul 1867 in Maryland, lived in Sharpsburg, Maryland, election district 1, in 1900.

Daniel Hemphill born 1844 in Maryland married Susan A ? born 1848 in Maryland. They had at least 8 children. Mary V 1866, John W 1867, Dewit C 1871, Roger E born Sept 1873, Florence G 1876, Leola 1878, Nina B Oct. 1883 and Sedoth Dec. 1894. In 1880 they lived in Downsville Maryland. In 1900 they lived in Keedysvilletown, Washington County, Maryland. Daniel worked as a laboror. Daniel died May 15,1916. Susan A died Nov 28, 1901.

The oldest son, John W, married Sarah C ? born Nov 1868 in Maryland and had at least 4 children. Lutie B born June 1890, Roger M born Oct 1891, Walter G born May 1896 and Farber J born Dec. 1898. In 1900 they lived in Keedysvilletown, Washington County, Maryland. John died in 1926 and Sarah C died in 1942.

Their third oldest son Roger E married Rosie ? who was born Aug 1874 in Maryland. They had at least one child, Davis H born Jul 1895. In 1900 They lived in Hagerstown City, Washington County, Maryland.

In 1896 their fifth child, Florence, married Clarence I Rhodes born 1875 in Maryland. Both of his parents were born in Pennsylvania. They had a child Ruth B born Jan 11 1897. In 1900 they were renting a house in Tilghmanton Maryland, Washington County, election district 12.

Daniel and his wife Susan A were burried in the Bakersville Church Cemetery in Bakersville, Washington County, Maryland. John and wife Sarah C are there also.

In the Brittish census of 1861 there is listed a family of Davies. John, age 34, and his wife Mary, age 39, had two children Anne Elizabeth, born 1854, and Rowland, born in Cennes, Wales, on October 1856. There was also listed an Anne Evans in the household, perhaps a house guest, cousin or servant. They lived in Gwern Ybwlch, dis Machynlleth, Wales.

In the 1871 census there was also an EW Davies, age 28, and a Thomas Andrews, age 32. They were still in Gwern Ybwlch, dis Machynlleth, Wales.

In 1879 Rowland married Maria M, born Oct 1857 in Scotland. Her father was born in England and her mother was born in Scotland. They lived on Maengwyn Street, Machynlleth, Montgomery, Wales in 1881. They had 5 children. John Haydn, born 1879 died as a child, Rowland, born Dec 1881, Mary, born Feb 1884, Magnes T, born March 1886 and Marie Rose, born March 1888. Rowland was a Professor of Music and a profesional organist. He moved with his wife and four children to the US in 1893. In 1900 they lived at 15 East Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, Maryland.

The third son of James and Sarah Shoup was Harry Cain Shoup. He married Leah Gantz, born June 11 1857 in Scottland Pennsylvania. Both her mother and father were born in Pennsylvania. They had at least 4 children. John Edward. 1875-1944, Amos Henry 1879-1953, Margaret B (Vandrew) 1885 and Charles A born and died 1883. In 1880 they lived in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania and Harry worked as a laboror. In 1900 they lived in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Leah died on Feb. 25, 1922.

The oldest son, John Edward Shoup, was born Nov 1875 and his wife (Maggie) Margaret V ? born Aug 1878 in Virginia had possibly two or more children. Wilbur was born Nov 1898 and Anna K was born and died in 1907. In 1900 they lived in Antrim Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. John died in 1944 and Margaret died in 1967.

The second son Amos Henry Shoup was born 1879 near Greencastle Pennsylvania married Marie Rose Davies born 1888 in Wales. They had three children. Clarance (Butch) 11/3/1914-2/1/1999, Amos Harry 7/13/1918-4/14/2004 and Mary Elizabeth. They lived in Greencastle in the 1920s and then moved to Alexander Street, Hagerstown, Maryland and Amos worked as a janitor at the Winter Street School. He died in 1953. Marie Rose died in 1950.

Margaret B Shoup married ? Vandrew and had several children. Hellen, Ethel and George.

John Edward and Margaret V are burried, along with Anna K at the foot of brother Amos Henry Shoup and Marie Rose, in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The infant Charles A is also burried there.

I have an image of an Elizabeth Shoup at three different ages; as a child with sister Inez, with a child Leland, and as an older woman on Aug 18th, 1906 in Chambersburg Pennsylvania. I have no idea how she is related.

Benjamin Shoup, born around 1839, with his wife Elizabeth, born around 1841, and child M.E., born around 1859, were living in Hamilton township, Pennsylvania in 1860. Benhamin was a day laborer with 50 personal estate in that year.

There was another Shoup family in Pennsylvania in 1900. They lived in Fannette Township, Dry Run, Sulphur Springs District. William M Shoup born March 1859 along with his wife Manda J born Jan 1869 had four children, Maud E born March 1891, Elmer born Feb. 1892, Grace D born Oct. 1897 and Bertie B born Oct. 1899.

Ames Shoup is listed in the 1900 census as born Aug 1878 in Pennsylvania and living in Chambersburg borough, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

Esther R Shoup is listed in the 1900 census as born March 1900 in Pennsylvania and living in Quincy Township, District 1, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. There was no one listed as her parents or siblings.

Edward (EM) Shoup born Sept 1878, in Pennsylvania married Minnie B (1880-1933) and then Mary Shocky (1894-1969) and lived in Antrim Township, District 3, Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1900. EM Shoup died 1945. All three are buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

I have a picture of a couple. On the back it says, To Marie and Amos Shoup, From Minnie Shoup.

Martha Shoup, born 1807, and son Conrad, born 1839, lived in Montgomery township in 1860. Martha ownded 450 in real estate and 50 in her personal estate. Conrad was a laborer with 250 in his personal estate.
In 1870 Martha lived with Jno.C Shoup, born 1839, and his Wife Margaret, born 1836. They had been married in June. Jno.C was a Cooper and had 1500 in his personal estate. Martha now had 550 in real estate. They lived in Montgomery township, near Upton, Pennsylvania.

Rebecca Shoup, born 1840, lived as a domestic in the borough of Mercersburg Pennsylvania in 1860.

Nancy Shoup, born in New Jersey in 1797 and 63 years of age in 1860, lived in Guilford township, Delaware and had 800 in real estate and 2200 in her personal estate in 1860. In 1870, at age 73 she lived near Greencastle, Antrim Township, Pennsylvania. She had 700 in real estate.

Daniel Shoup, born 1841, was 19 and worked as a farm hand in St Thomas township, Pennsylvania in 1860.

William Shoup born in Franklin County Pa has a child named Lucy Emma Krichbaum.

In 1840 there was listed a Jacob Shoup on the same census page as James Shoup. Jacob would have been between the ages of 50-60. Other males include 2 under 5 and 1 between 5 and 10. Females include 1 under 5, 1 10-15 and 1 40-50 years old. James would have been 21 years old that year and Jacob could be his father or uncle.

In the 1830 census, there were other Shoups.

~ Jacob Shoup lived in St. Thomas Township

On October 7, 1813 there was a land warrant to Jacob Shoup for 55 acres in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

James Shoup was born in 1819 in Franklin County Pennsylvania. He married Sarah ? who was born in 1819 in Pennsylvania also. They had at least 9 children. Catharine 1839, John Jan 1840, Hannah 1843, Sarah 1845, William R 1848, Harry Cain 1849, Anna, EF and Mary J 1860. It seems that for all of his life, James lived in Hamilton township, Franklin County Pennsylvania as a farmer. Harry Cain is said to have been born in Cashtown Pa so at some point the family lived or visited near there. In 1860, at age 39 James was a day laborer with 500 in real estate and 100 in personal estate.

His oldest son John Shoup married Leah ? , born about Nov. 1840 in Pennsylvania, They had at least 4 children. John 1867, Alice June 1868, Emma May 1870 and Hattie Jan. 1875. In 1870 the family lived in Antrim Township, near Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At that time, John was a farmer with 1400 in his personal estate. In 1900 they lived in Antrim Township, District 3, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

The second oldest son, William R Shoup, at age 22 worked as a farm hand near Greenvillage, Greene township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1870. He married Anne ? born 1854. They had at least 4 children. Alta G 1874, Clayton G 1878, Carrie B 1877 and a female child in 1879. In 1880 the family lived in Letterkenny.

The third son, Harry Cain Shoup married Leah Gantz, born June 11 1857 in Scottland Pennsylvania. They had at least 4 children. John Edward. 1875-1944, Amos Henry 1879-1953, Margaret B (Vandrew) 1885 and Charles A born and died 1883. In 1880 they lived in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania and Harry worked as a laboror. In 1900 they lived in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

There was a Hannah Shoup living in Hamilton Township im 1860 as a domestic. She is reported to have been born around 1834 in the census. Her age could have been reported incorrectly. The daughter of James and Sarah was not reported to be living with her parents in the 1860 census.
