20/08: 4H at the Fair
Sissy went to the fair today with her 4H club. It was a last minute event but was still loads of fun for everyone. Here she is practicing for her showmanship competition with her favorite little guy, Lucky.

26/06: Price List
We have been asked to post a price list so here it is:
pre-juniors 6 week - 3 months, pet quality $15.00
pre-juniors 6 week - 3 months, good color $25.00
Juniors 3-6 months $35.00
Intermediates 6-8 months $45.00
Seniors 8 months+ $55.00
In addition to this add:
$10.00 for each time the rabbit has won 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in it's class
$20.00 for each BOB or BOS
$25.00 for each leg
So if you would like a junior that has shown and it won 1st place in it's class then figure: $35.00 +$10.00 = $45.00
Obviously the least expensive would be a pre-junior. It also is a very fair price to ask $130.00 for a young senior Grand Champion.

04/06: A New Favorite
Let me introduce you to Lucky. This is Sissy's new favorite bunny.

He is 3 weeks old and we are very pleased with him so far. He is one of the three biggest in Mopsey's litter and has a great personality. Sissy handles him several times every day and he seems to love it. He comes over to be picked up each time she goes to see him.
BTW - I am just guessing that he is a boy. At this size you can't really tell. :)

08/02: PaSRBA 2010
We had a great time at the Pa State Rabbit Breeders Association Convention this past weekend. The snow kept a lot of exhibitors away but there were still a lot that were able to attend.
We set out on Friday to stay ahead of the weather. The show room opened early to accommodate early arrivals and filled up fast. Most exhibitors coming from the south said that they were checked in on Friday as well.
The snow delayed the show for an hour on Saturday but everything ran on schedule on Sunday.
Saturdays show went well for us. Our 6/8 doe, Grace-S04T, won first place intermediate doe and Best Opposite Sex. This counts for her second leg. Big Guy received first place intermediate buck without challenge. The BOB went to a senior buck.

08/02: Grace - S04T
Grace is a doe from Star and Odin that we took to the Lebanon show in October 2009 to sell. Anita Trautwein went through the litters and picked out two that she thought had potential. I took her advice and kept the two.
Grace is one of the two that we kept. She was shown for the first time at the Wade Memorial Show in Carroll County Md. She won first place intermediate doe and Best Opposite Sex. Then we took her to the PaSRBA show and she won the same. Both of her BOS counted toward a leg. We are very excited about her potential and look forward to the next show.
We are very grateful for the guidance that other breeders, like Anita, give to us to help improve our line. This breed is great and the other breeders are wonderful and delightful to hang out with at shows.

The Carroll County 4-H Rabbit Club decided to have a memorial show for Mike and Sherry Wade. They put on a great show, with wonderful food, this past snowy Sunday. I am sure that a lot of people didn't come out who wanted to because of the weather.
We made it, but a little late. We took 5 Giant Chinchilla Rabbits. With no competition other than ourselves, we easily took Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex.
It was nice to have the judge all to ourselves and benefit from an in depth evaluation of our bunnies. We now have a more firm, judge encouraged, plan for improving our line of Giant Chins.
Overall the show was a success. I think that the 4-H was able to raise a good deal of funds for the Wade Memorial Scholarship.
I do have to mention again that the food was wonderful. So good, in fact, that I strongly encourage that other shows follow in their lead. We spent more money on food at this show than we have spent at all the other shows put together.
They had real eggs, real pancakes ....... real ..... just about everything. The deserts were great as well. In fact it was so good that we purchased some to take home. I didn't hear any of the judges or other participants complain about the food in any way. Great Job Kitchen Staff!!!!! :)

31/01: Big Guy - LO1K
Big Guy is the first choice of the first litter of Lily and Oden. He showed wonderful color from 4 weeks and was one of the largest of the litter.
Update from 10/11/09 - Big Guy won third place junior buck in Open at the Lebanon Valley rabbit show in Lebanon Pa. We are very excited. He was just 15 weeks old and 6.5 lbs. The judge's evaluation of him was very positive. For the most part he just needs to fill out, which will come with maturity.
Update from 11/14/09 - Big Guy won first place junior buck and took Best Opposite Sex for his first leg. We knew he would do well.
Update from 1/31/10 - At the last moment we decided to go to the Carroll County RBA show. Big Guy took first place intermediate buck and then Best Of Breed for his second leg. We will see how well he does next Saturday at the PaSRBA show in Lebanon.

29/11: Remembering Some Bunnies
It's strange to say goodbye to bunnies when you sell a senior. We did just that on Friday when we sold Star, Jane and Peter to Mr. Roach of WV. He drove 5-6 hours to get some buns and we wish them well on their future in his breeding program. One day we hope to see their progeny at competition. Until then, we will miss their wonderful personalities.
Remembering Star: Star was my personal pick on our first trip to Dave Hall's place over in WV. She was beautiful and her name was chosen because I just knew that she would be my star producer. She was bread successfully twice this past year giving nice litters. We saved 1 doe and 3 bucks from her. She is a proven doe and should be a good starting doe to get into this breed.
Remembering Jane: Jane was one of the two junior does that we picked up from Laura Peele over in Needmore Pa. Jane was so soft and small when we first purchased her that she was a favorite to carry around and as she grew she still expected to be taken out daily and loved, walked or carried around the place. She really had a wonderful personality. She just turned 8 months so she hasn't proven her breeding ability to us. We wish her well.
Remembering Peter: Peter was picked up from Dave Hall on our second trip out to his place looking for breeding bucks. He was the younger of the two that we picked up. He has always been very curious and would "help" you open his door. He was a very "in your face" kind of guy, wanting to see what you were up to. Peter is now 6 months and will be available for breeding by this spring, plenty of time to feel at home in Mr. Roach's rabbitry.
We have fond memories of every bunny in our rabbitry. :) We look forward to seeing how well these do in their new home.

We had a great time at the show. There was a nice turn-out with 18 Giant Chins. The best competition was in the junior doe class with 7. Our Princess took third place. Our best win was Big Guy, he took first place junior buck and then went on to get Best Opposite Sex. With plenty of owners and animals at this show, the win counted as a leg. We are so proud. !!
It was wonderful seeing the other owners again as well. The Delmarva group was there and Mrs. Whitehouse brought her chins as well. In looking around and counting the chins we were wondering until the last minute who the other owner was with those last three registered. Then in came a trio that we sold to a group in Ortanna last month. Their junior doe beat ours taking second in the class. We were happy to see her do so well.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the PSARBA show in February and hope to have even more competition.
